Players will navigate around the Geoscape using ships and strategic planning. Flying, exploring, and researching all require time to pass, but the time can be paused on the Geoscape screen if players need a moment to plan their next moves. The Mist, like Black Legend's fog, can be deadly as it affects how likely it is that a Phoenix Project base or a faction Haven will be attacked. At certain points, players will need to complete diplomatic missions to reach the next level of friendship with a faction. When Phoenix Project operatives help a Haven, the relationship with that faction will be maintained or increased. There are various types of missions, including defending Havens that are under attack and scavenging for supplies or vehicles. Combat also includes a free-aim system where players can target specific weak spots on enemies or structures. Phoenix Point is out now on PC, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions slated to launch on October 1 and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions arriving at a later date.With turn-based combat and real-time global strategy, Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition offers a compelling and challenging experience. In the meantime, they can play several other tactical shooters in the same vein as Phoenix Point and XCOM on consoles, including Gears Tactics, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, and Wasteland 3.
The game wound up getting three subsequent DLCs in the months since its launch, with the lineup including Festering Skies, Legacy of the Ancients, and Blood and Titanium. Each addition added new content to the base experience, which players on consoles can look forward to jumping into when the Behemoth Edition hits shelves. One of the biggest deviations is its free aiming system, which allows players to manually fire their gun at a specific limb of the unit they're targeting. While Phoenix Point shares a lot in common with XCOM, it also strays from the series in several ways. They'll go head to head across several procedurally generated maps, utilizing a combination of soldiers from three distinct factions to annihilate evolving enemies that change their tactics over the course of the game. For those who didn't catch Phoenix Point's release on PC, the game follows a similar premise to XCOM, seeing players assume the role of a commander who must bring together a team of soldiers to fight back against an alien invasion.
